Plug-In Wall Sconces

A plug-in wall sconce needs no hardwired connection: the light is screwed to the wall and the cable runs to the nearest outlet. That way you get light beside the bed, sofa or armchair even where there is no wall connection – practical in rental homes and whenever you rearrange a room.

Choosing a plug-in wall sconce

  • Switch: every model is switched directly on the light or on the cable. TYRA and TUVA have an inline switch on the cable, while TINE has a rotary switch on the bulb holder.
  • Adjustable for reading: TYRA with its swiveling metal shade and TUVA with its folding wooden arm and ceramic shade direct the light precisely onto your book or pillow.
  • Decorative: VANJA with green pressed glass on a brass-colored arm, TINE with a glass flower on a gooseneck and CORI with an opal glass globe on a wooden plate add character to the wall.
  • Cable length: measure the distance from the light to the outlet before you order. CORI has a 150 cm cable, TINE one of 1.8 m.

Mounting and cable routing

Beside the bed, a reading sconce sits well when the shade is about 60 to 80 cm above the mattress. The visible cable can run straight down, be fixed to the wall with cable clips or be hidden in a slim cable cover. Check the right bulb: bulb holder and maximum wattage are listed on each product page, and some models come without a bulb.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an electrician?

Not for the connection: you simply plug the light in. To fix it to the wall, all you need is a drill, wall anchors and screws.

Does a plug-in wall sconce work as a reading light?

Yes, especially models with an adjustable shade or arm such as TYRA and TUVA. Choose a warm white bulb that does not dazzle.
