Living Room Pendant Lights
Living room pendant lights give the room a focal point and a warm centre. Here you will find pendant lights in real alabaster, travertine, marble, walnut and opal glass – from a large alabaster shade and a chandelier-like crown of several alabaster bowls to slender marble cylinders.
Using living room pendant lights well
- As a centrepiece: a large light such as GURSI with an alabaster shade up to 80 cm in diameter, or the alabaster crown FETE, makes a clear statement in the middle of the room.
- Above the coffee table and seating area: here the light can hang lower than in a walkway, but should not block the view between seats.
- In corners and beside the sofa: smaller pendants such as the marble cylinders ZORA or SVEA hang low beside an armchair and replace a floor lamp.
- Clearance: where people walk underneath, the bottom of the light should be at least about 2 m above the floor.
Planning light in layers
A single pendant light is rarely enough for a whole living room. Combine it with wall, table or floor lamps so the room is not lit only from above in the evening. Warm white light of around 2700 to 3000 K makes it cosy. Alabaster and opal glass diffuse light softly, while travertine and wooden shades direct it downwards and make the room feel calmer. As natural stone is a natural material, veining and tone vary from piece to piece.
Frequently asked questions
How big should a living room pendant light be?
In large rooms, a shade from about 50 cm in diameter looks right. In smaller living rooms, several small pendants are often the better choice.
Can I fit a pendant light to a sloping ceiling?
Some models are suitable for sloping ceilings according to their product page. You will find this information with each light.
