Kitchen Island Pendant Lights

Kitchen island pendant lights bring light exactly where you chop, cook and eat: above the kitchen island, the breakfast bar or a small dining area. Here you will find pendant lights in travertine and walnut, opal glass, ceramic and brass – on their own, in pairs or as a row of three heads.

Kitchen island pendant lights: height and spacing

  • Height: above a kitchen island or breakfast bar, the bottom of the light usually hangs about 70 to 80 cm above the countertop – a little higher than above a dining table, so heads and sightlines stay clear.
  • In a row: two or three identical pendants evenly spaced look calm. As a guide, leave about 60 to 80 cm between the lights and around 15 to 30 cm free at each end of the island.
  • Ready-made multi-head lights: models such as ERIA, EOS or TAIKA come with three heads on a linear bar – practical when there is only one ceiling connection.
  • Classic: the schoolhouse-style opal glass shade XELIO with a brass socket suits both country and modern kitchens.

Bright task light, warm atmosphere

Pendant lights provide task lighting but rarely replace a kitchen’s main light. Combine them with ceiling lights or spotlights. Neutral light is comfortable for the countertop, while warm white of around 2700 to 3000 K suits the dining area. Smooth surfaces such as glass, ceramic and sealed travertine can be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth; care instructions are on each product page.

Frequently asked questions

How many pendant lights above a kitchen island?

For an island up to about 180 cm, two lights are usually enough; for longer islands, three. Alternatively, a linear light with several heads covers the whole length.

Which material is best for a kitchen?

Opal glass and ceramic are easy to clean, travertine and wood bring warmth. What matters is that the light does not hang directly above the stovetop.
