The alabaster table lamp BESMA lets a disc of genuine alabaster glow from within. Switched off, it looks like a small sculpture.
Design and material
A cylindrical metal stem with fine horizontal fluting ends in a rounded cap and stands on a flat, round base. Around the stem sits an alabaster disc 18 cm (7.1 in) in diameter, which lets the light of the integrated LED shine warmly through and reveals its veins when backlit. The 23 cm (9.1 in) model has one disc; the 31 cm (12.2 in) model has two discs, one above the other. The metal comes in matte black or brushed gold. Veining and translucency vary from piece to piece.

Where the light comes into its own
On a nightstand, BESMA gives a soft, glare-free light for the evening. On a hallway console or a living room sideboard, it becomes a quiet eye-catcher. The small model fits narrow surfaces; the large one with two discs suits chests of drawers and desks. Black looks graphic against pale wood, gold warm alongside walnut and linen.
